Ludhiana: In an interesting case amid the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Ludhiana Congress president Ashwani Sharma on Tuesday sent a legal notice to Union culture minister and senior leader of BJP Mahesh Sharma and even filed a defamation suit of Rs 5 crore against him. Sharma has filed the case, citing use of derogatory remarks by Mahesh Sharma against All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi in his recent rally.

Giving more information about the case, Ashwani Sharma said, “Union minister Mahesh Sharma has crossed all boundaries of decency and in his rally at Secunderabad he used derogatory remarks against our national president Rahul Gandhi and our leader Priyanka Gandhi as well. It is really shocking that how can a person who is holding such a high post has such absurd thinking and he does not know how to respect women.”

Sharma also said, “This kind of behaviour by a Union minister has totally exposed the mindset of BJP leaders, who only respect women in advertisements but in reality they stoop to such level and hit below the belt. I was deeply hurt by this act of Mahesh Sharma and due to this I have filed a defamation suit for Rs 5 crore against the minister and also sent a legal notice to him on Tuesday. I have given him a chance to apologise in writing and I also request the BJP high command that if they are concerned about the dignity of women, then they should take action against Sharma.
