AGRA: Due to lack of proper maintenance, a 63 mega volt ampere (MVA) transformer of Dayalbagh sub-station in Agra district stopped functioning on Monday, causing inconvenience to residents.
Officials on Tuesday said that the transformer will now have to be repaired and the process will take at least a week. Hence, power supply from six feeders connected to the sub-station will remain affected for the next seven days. Around 10,000 households in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ) will get less power supply in the coming week.
The 132 kV Dayalbagh sub-station located at Peeli Pokhar has two transformers. One is of 40 MVA and the other larger one which stopped working is of 63 MVA and supplies electricity in rural part of the Agra district. The non-functioning of the transformer will affect power supply through six feeders of Ujrai, Hajipur Khera, Muddi, Nehra, Khara and Awalkera area.
A senior official of the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation (UPPTCL) said, “In place of the 63 MVA transformer now two transformer of 40 MVA each will be installed at the Dayalbagh substation. This will increase the capacity and ensure uninterrupted power supply”.
SK Baghel, staff officer of the state-government owned discom Daskshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL), said, “Due to repair work of a transformer at Dayalbagh sub-station, the power supply in the rural parts of the district is being managed through other substations. People in rural areas will have to deal with power cuts for the next few days.”
Satish Yadav, resident of Anwalkhera, said, “Power supply has been affected since the past two days. With increase in temperature, it will be very difficult to stay without electricity. Authorities must ensure that the problem at the sub-station is fixed at the earliest.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Dayalbagh resident Nirmal Singh said, “The transformer damaged due to lakh of proper maintenance. Now we have to suffer because of the shoddy work of the officials. The area under TTZ is required to have 24 hour power supply but this hardly takes place. The state government must take cognizance of the matter.”
