KOLKATA: Calcutta university published the result of B. Com semester III under the choice based credit system (CBCS) on Wednesday afternoon. All the 16, 157 examinees who took the exam in the Honours category in January passed the examination producing cent percent result, something unheard of under the previous system. In the general category, only a few students out of the total 5660 have failed. There were no incomplete results, the university officials have informed.
Members of the commerce faculty in different colleges said that the results indicated the students have developed a grasp over CBCS.
“The result in the honours category is 100 percent. In the general category only a few students have failed. This also indicates that the students and the teachers have developed a good grasp over the CBCS system. Initially there were apprehensions about the new system but the syllabus is very lucid and designed keeping the needs of the time in mind,” said a university official.
The university had in 2017 introduced the system - which enables a student to choose an elective paper from any discipline - in the BCom course only. Last year it was extended to all undergraduate and post graduate courses of the university. The university had introduced the CBCS system after several prods from the University Grants Commission. The syllabi was revamped and several workshops were held to acquaint the teachers to the new system. The students in commerce now take exams for 2600 marks spread over six semesters instead of 1800 under the previous system.
