The Revenue Department on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Pollachi East police after photocopies of currencies were distributed to those who attended the election rally of Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneeselvam at Pollachi late on Tuesday.
R. Ravikumar, Assistant Returning Officer for Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency, recovered the fake currencies from a section of the people who had come to the election campaign near the Municipal Middle School on ABT Road in Pollachi.
“The fake currencies were of the denominations between ₹ 2,000 and ₹ 10. The people said that these were given by a former municipal councillor attached to the AIADMK. We do not know whether these were distributed as tokens for actual payment. We have lodged a complaint with the police to investigate the matter,” said Mr. Ravikumar. Pollachi East police have registered a case and are investigating.
