The Simpsons
7Mate, 9pm
Not having watched The Simpsons in some time, I felt a little lift of joy at the sight of that bright, familiar, yellow-peopled lounge room – a pure Pavlovian response. And although the quality has been variable in recent seasons, this episode at least didn't disappoint. By a series of quintessentially Simpsons-esque steps, Bart becomes a video game champion and Homer learns how to be an obsessive sports dad, which results in the whole family ending up in a Buddhist temple in Seoul. Of course. Along the way, there are lots of lovely observations and even some genuine laugh-out-louds.
Bull
Ten, 9.15pm
Dr Jason Bull returns to work after his massive heart attack a changed man – but not in a good way. It is, apparently, no more Mr Nice Guy as he commits his team to defending an evil health insurer. Now, as this is Bull, we know that won't last. But in the experienced hands of showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron it's easy to suspend disbelief. And just as every other episode of Bull drove us inevitably towards a courtroom win – the only question being how – the puzzle here is what will turn Bull around, a state of affairs slyly acknowledged in this episode's satisfying resolution.
