Infoclinic, a popular social media platform operated by a group of doctors to bust unscientific information and superstitions related to health care, is now a full-fledged website. https://infoclinic.in/ will be officially launched on April 7 to mark World Health Day.
Those behind the initiative claim that they would attempt to uphold scientific temper and develop a scientific outlook among people. Jithin T. Joseph, one of the administrators of the page, told The Hindu that the website has around 250 articles on various health issues now.
Infoclinic was launched as a Facebook page in October 2016 to expose the misinformation on health care being generated and circulated on social media.
Their post on ‘hijama’, an Arabian treatment to ‘draw out impure blood’ using cups after making incisions on human body, was taken down by Facebook in June 2017 after many reported it as ‘harmful.’
The article had pointed out that there was no rational explanation for the treatment, calling it unscientific. It was restored later.
The page was active during the measles-rubella vaccination campaign, Nipah outbreak, and last year’s floods with detailed articles and live interactions on various aspects.
It has over 70,000 followers and counting.
Dr. Joseph says the collective of 30 health professionals is attempting to create awareness about health issues and impart scientific facts on the medical sector apart from exposing unscientific, unauthorised and baseless information.
