‘Should income tax officials turn a blind eye towards activities of the DMK?’

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday questioned whether income tax officials should turn a blind eye towards the activities of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Addressing reporters, she said, “Earlier, they said it was because of political vendetta. They said that only around ₹10 lakh was seized from Durai Murugan’s house. But, later, wads of cash was found at his friend’s house. Should the IT officials turn a blind eye towards all this?”

Ms. Tamilisai canvassed votes at Kamaraj market and bought vegetables from vendors.

She said a shuttle train would be operated to Thoothukudi from Vanchi Maniyachi. “Eighty trains from north India stop there. A shuttle train to Thoothukudi would be operated right after the election is over,” she said.

She said the BJP government had brought trains like Antyodaya Express, Tejas Express and metro rail at various places. “When Piyush Goyal visited Thoothukudi, people raised a complaint that Antyodaya Express did not halt at Kovilpatti. But he immediately made sure that the train halted at the station,” she said.

She questioned what Ms. Kanimozhi, a two-time Member of Parliament, had brought to Thoothukudi.

She said that she was honest and would bring development to the constituency. Small industries making useful products out of banana fibre would be set up, and the palm business would be improved, besides creating an IT park and trade centre to generate employment, she added.
