An 18-year-old boy has been ordered to serve 200 hours of community service after he punched a police officer in the face and arm 'because he deserved it'.

William Albert Eaves, also known as William White, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three counts of obstructing police and one count of serious assault of a police officer.

Police were patrolling Surfers Paradise, Queensland, on January 27 when they spotted Eaves shoving a person around 4.30am.

After being confronted by an officer, Eaves refused to give them his name and address, according to Senior Constable Nicola Wood.

Eaves then lashed out, striking the officer in the face and the arm before other police were able to step in and stop the attack.

When asked why he punched police he said "he deserved it",' Constable Wood told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

The officer suffered bruising to the face and arm and soft tissue damage.

Queensland Magistrate Pamela Dowse slammed the 18-year-old's terrible behaviour and ordered Eaves to pay $500 in compensation to the officer.

'You have a very bad attitude if you think you can whack someone because you think they "deserve it",' she told the Southport Courthouse.

Eaves' lawyer noted that he had consumed a large amount of alcohol on the night of the attack - which was also his 18th birthday.

He also said Eaves is in the process of completing Year 12 and is working at Taco Bell part time.
