Indian Twitter users on Tuesday went into a major nostalgia trip recalling the memorable day 8 years back when India lifted the cricket world cup after a gap of 28 years. It was MS Dhoni and his band of boys who completed a tricky chase against a spirited Sri Lankan side at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai to give 1.25 crores Indians a sense of collective victory.
Who can forget Ravi Shastri's booming baritone as MS Dhoni completed the last rites slamming a huge six to reach Sri Lanka's total.

While the end was smooth, India encountered a major roadblock at the start of their innings when in-form Sachin and Sehwag were dismissed cheaply. The ghosts of many failed chases in the past were clouding the minds of Indian supporters. But thanks to brilliant hand played by Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, India finally managed to win comfortably.
Eight years down the line, the team composition has changed significantly but alonsgside captain Kohli, MS Dhoni remains an integral part of the squad. So, many Twitterati posted hoping for an encore from MS Dhoni in this world Cup. The ICC cricket world cup is slated to start in couple of months and India is one of the favourites to lift the cup. Many believe it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni's swansong and what better way will be to bid adieu to international cricket than lifting the World Cup. Thus that was the common appeal from all cricket fans, who want history to be repeated and Dhoni to get a fairytale farewell.
Here are some of the tweets describing emotions of that day and what the fans hope for in the coming World Cup.
