While Meghan deactivated her social media accounts after getting engaged to Prince Harry, Princess Eugenie actually launched her Instagram page in March 2018
Princess Eugenie is leading the social media welcoming committee for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry!
In honor of the new @SussexRoyal Instagram page, the Queen’s granddaughter, 29, shared a sweet photo of the royal couple sharing a laugh during their Nov. 2017 engagement photo call to her own account.
“Welcome cousins,” Eugenie captioned the post, adding the handle for Meghan and Harry’s personal account, @SussexRoyal.
While Meghan deactivated her social media accounts after getting engaged to Prince Harry, Princess Eugenie actually launched her Instagram page in March 2018. It is likely allowed because Eugenie doesn’t have a formal working role within the royal family. While she does accompany her father on official duties and engagements, she doesn’t have a fixed role within the family like her cousins (although she does have causes she supports). In fact, Eugenie works as an associate director at London art gallery Hauser & Wirth.
The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who tied the knot with Jack Brooksbank in October, has shared epic Throwback Thursday posts and championed her philanthropy work through Instagram.
Eugenie wasn’t alone in celebrating the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new account. The Royal Family account, which shares the work of the Queen and other royals, Prince Charles‘ office at Clarence House and Prince Andrew are among the other royals to share their excitement about the new page.
Meghan’s close friends have also welcomed her back to social media. Daniel Martin, the royal mom-to-be’s close pal and royal wedding makeup artist, shared a screenshot of the couple’s joint monogram with the caption, “follow my peeps cuz #sharingiscaring.” Meghan’s friend Jessica Mulroney also commented on the new page’s first post with two heart emoji.

In just a few hours since the launch of Meghan and Harry’s new page, it has gained 1.2 million followers. They follow just 23 accounts in return, including Eugenie, other official royal accounts and a number of charities.
The account has come just in time — Meghan and Harry are due to welcome their first child this month. According to a royal source, Harry and Meghan will use the Instagram for both their work and their personal moments. (What better place to share new pictures of their royal baby!)
They captioned their very first post: “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”- Harry & Meghan.
Harry and Meghan also shared a few of their favorite photos, which highlights their royal work. The nine photos include special moments from their royal tour to Australia last fall, Harry’s work with the military and his conservation efforts with elephants, Meghan’s bond with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen and her connection with the public. The photo gallery ends with a dramatic black-and-white shot of the couple from their tour Down Under as they wave to the crowd while holding hands.
