Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has slammed the Congress party's manifesto, saying some of the ideas in it are "positively dangerous", and that the party is on an agenda for "Balkanisation" of India. "The Congress' manifesto is a charter to weaken India. After reading the manifesto, my worst fears have come true. Repeal of Section 124(A) of the IPC, diluting AFSPA, and 'bail is the rule, jail is the exception' for terrorists and hardcore criminals will severely compromise national security," Jaitley said.

"The manifesto compromises national security and has sham and bluff promises with little detailed understanding of the subjects involved. It's an irresponsible document which has never to be implemented since Congress looks a certain loser," Jaitley wrote on Facebook.

Earlier, during a press conference at BJP headquarters, he said, "70 years of mistakes have dragged Jammu and Kashmir to where it is today. We are establishing rule of law, but Congress wants to establish rules of terrorists and insurgents."

The country can't forget the "historic blunder" committed by the Nehru-Gandhi family regarding Kashmir, he said, also pointing out how there was no mention of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the manifesto.

"Even though the Congress had set up a drafting committee to prepare the manifesto, it appears that some important points related to Jammu and Kashmir were drafted by Rahul Gandhi's friends in the 'Tukde Tukde' gang," he said.

Also tearing into the Congress for its promise to remove the sedition law, Jaitley said, "They have promised to remove Section 124(A) of the IPC. The party that promises this in its manifesto doesn't have the right to get even a single vote."

Regarding the Congress' promise of amending the Code of Criminal Procedure and related laws to affirm the principle that 'bail is the rule and jail is the exception', he said, "They want to make changes to the CrPC. They want to change the way in which the law of bail functions. Now, not granting bail will be considered a violation of law."

He said Rahul has made "unimplementable" and dangerous promises, but the country won't be in a mood to oblige him. He also slammed the Congress's proposed Nyuntam Aay Yojna (NYAY) scheme as "nothing but a bluff".

Regarding the Congress's promise to create more jobs, Jaitley said, "Rahul Gandhi says they will fill 28 lakh jobs. But the next sentence of the Congress manifesto says 20 lakh jobs are in state governments. He must at least read what he is saying."

Some Key Points

  • Guarantee of a minimum income to eliminate poverty or Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NyAY)
  • Job revolution to ensure 34 lakh jobs in public sector and persuading state govts to fill 20 lakh vacancies
  • AFSPA and Disturbed Areas Act in Jammu and Kashmir will be reviewed
  • To simplify GST regime with a single moderate rate of tax, zero rate of exports, and exemption for essential goods and services.
