Not deposited arms yet? You may lose licence
Avishek Kumar Dubey | TNN | Apr 2, 2019, 07:05 ISTGhaziabad: Police have recommended cancellation of arms licences of those who have not deposited their weapons with local police stations ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The police are preparing a list of violators and will send it to the district administration for action.
Upendra Kumar Agrawal, the Ghaziabad SSP, said the district administration had issued around 16,000 gun licences in total and of them, police have already seized 10,500 weapons. “Officers of various police stations around the district have been asked to prepare a list of violators who have failed to deposit firearms,” he said.
Agrawal said data of violators had already been sourced from two police stations.
“The total number is 945, of which 626 violators are from Kavi Nagar police station area while 319 are from Sihani Gate. The list has been sent to the district administration for further investigation,” said Agrawal. “Around 2,000 people are outside the city, state or country. A final assessment will be done soon. Around 1,500 people, including government officials, businessmen and bank security personnel, have been exempted from deposing their weapons due to various reasons,” the SSP added.
Action would be taken against the violators under provisions of the Arms Act and Section 144 of CrPC.
“We will act on the violators under the Arms act and arms rules for violating section 144 of CrPC will be taken against them,” he said
“Police have started the process of cancelling arms licence and will continue if people violate the rule. Data from other police stations will be available in the next two days. So, we will have the entire data soon,” said Agrawal.
Police said arms deposited at local police stations would be released after the model code of conduct is over.
