ADR to I-T officials: Probe details of candidates’ affidavit

Bhopal: Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has written a letter to THE Income Tax Commissioner to take action against MPs and MLAs, who showed excessive rise in their property and did not file tax returns in their affidavits.  The ADR has also urged the IT department to enquire the financial details provided by the candidates through affidavits, so that the details can be verified.

The ADR delegation has also shared details of MPs and MLAs who have failed to declare their IT returns besides showing exorbitant rise in their assets. According to ADR, three crorepati MPs and 16 crorepati MLAs did not declare tax return. Moreover properties of nine elected MPs have grown up by 1000%.  The ADR in its letter has stated that several candidates do not provide details of their PAN despite owning properties in crores. These contestants also do not provide ITR (income tax return).

The IT department should probe the candidates who showed manifold rise or fall in assets in their affidavits.  The ADR has also categorically reminded the I-T department that providing wrong or incomplete information in affidavit may lead to disqualification of contestant.

Crorepati MPs who have not filed their ITRs

Bodh Singh Bhagat representing Balaghat is having assets of about Rs 2.5 crore but hasn’t filed ITR. Similarly, Gyan Singh of Shahdol and Janardan Mishra of Rewa too haven’t filed their ITRs but they own assets of more than Rs 1 crore each.

Suneeta Patel of Congress representing Gadarwara owns assets of Rs 6.13 crore but did not mention PAN details in the affidavit. Similarly, Umakant Sharma of the BJP from Sironj has assets of Rs 16.4 lakh but didn’t provide PAN details.
