BJP & Congress candidates file nominations for Guwahati seat
Pranjal Baruah | TNN | Apr 2, 2019, 05:36 ISTGuwahati: It was early Bihu in Guwahati on Monday as BJP and Congress candidates marched along with their supporters to file nominations for the seat at the returning officer’s office. An atmosphere of festivity prevailed as workers of both the parties were seen beating the drums and breaking into a jig in support of their nominees.
BJP candidate Queen Ojha, who was accompanied by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP vice president Vijoy Gupta and others, said she would win without any hassle. “I’ve been given a huge job to represent the people from one of the most prestigious constituencies of the state. With BJP’s commitment for the state’s development, my victory from the seat is certain. Congress is not even a factor,” said Ojha.
Echoing Ojha, Sonowal said, “It’s confirmed that people of the state will vote for making Modi the Prime Minister once again. The state has been on the path of progress during BJP’s reign.”
For Congress candidate Bobbeeta Sharma, rising unemployment and inflation will be her poll plank against BJP. “In today’s India, unemployment is a major problem for the youngsters. When Modi was voted to power, he promised to generate 2 crore jobs for the youth but he failed to deliver his promise.”
Criticising the BJP-AGP alliance, the Congress leader alleged, “AGP is an opportunist party. People of Assam have already realized the reality and they are going to teach them a lesson this election.”
Besides the duo, Trinamool Congress candidate Manoj Sharma has filed his nomination for the Guwahati seat which is going to the polls on April 23. The Gauhati Lok Sabha seat has 2149230 voters.
