In an effort to help combat the growing shortage of healthcare workers in the Twin Cities, the St. Paul Senior Workers Association (SPSWA) has contributed $1,000 to the International Institute of Minnesota for efforts to train more nursing students in its Nursing Assistant Training Program. The donation took place today at the SPSWA’s Spring Conference, held at the Northern Heights Lutheran Church.
“As professionals in the senior industry, we see first-hand the impact of the healthcare worker shortage,” said Lauren Bednar, president of the SPSWA. “We wanted to give back to the industry we love and help its future in a real tangible way. The International Institute’s medical programs are truly needed, especially as our society continues to age.”
Jane Graupman, executive director of the International Institute, accepted the contribution and said, “New Americans consistently say health care is an industry where they would like to build their career. Your support to the Medical Careers Pathway will bring more immigrants into this critical sector, thank you.”
The International Institute of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization that makes “full membership in American life” accessible to immigrants and refugees in Minnesota. Through refugee services, immigration assistance, English-language education, and employment services, the Institute brings motivated, hard-working New Americans into the community.
