2020 Corvette C8: See The New Fully-Digital Instrument Cluster And Other Interior Details

Following our world exclusive first look on the new Corvette C8’s interior, our spies have come up with a fresh set of images of the cabin, giving us a better look (mainly) at the digital instrument cluster.

These images show the two-spoke square steering wheel more clearly, while also providing a look at the new digital instrument cluster.

We can see the tachometer sitting in the middle and a G-force meter on its left, offering a max readout of 1.25G. Infotainment details appear on the right side of the digital cluster. A Corvette logo is visible within the tach, right above the speedometer.

Other visible details include a digital rear-view mirror display fed by a camera, providing a clear and unobstructed view behind and a set of large aluminum shift paddles behind the wheel. The impressive center console that incorporates the HVAC controls in a narrow row of buttons is covered in this instance, as well as the big infotainment display.

The mid-engine Corvette will retain the Stingray moniker, at least in the base model fitted with the upgraded 6.2-liter V8 engine offering 500hp or more. The range of the C8 is also expected to include a new twin-turbo V8 engine option that will reportedly produce between 900 and 1,000hp.

GM has been reportedly dealing with development issues of the range-topping version, as the massive power has been causing “a structural distortion of the aluminum spaceframe”. It’s said that the distortion is so bad that it’s breaking the glass hatch that covers the engine.

The new engines will be accompanied by an also new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. There’s no information on whether GM will offer a manual gearbox option with the new Corvette C8.

The camouflaged exterior retains some clever fake bumps and pads in order to hide the final shape but the pictured car is believed to feature the final production lights all around. Look closely and you’ll notice a thin LED strip above the main taillights that acts both as a brake light and as pulsating indicators.

The first mid-engine Corvette is expected to break cover sometime in the summer, with GM still trying to keep it a secret. Stay tuned for more updates.
