A 68-year-old step-grandfather gave his wife money to play bingo so he could molest her young granddaughters, aged seven and nine, while she was out.

The rapist, who can't be named for legal reasons, was jailed for six years on Monday after pleading guilty to 31 sexual offences, including seven counts of rape, in Queensland's Maryborough District Court.

The court heard the two sisters, from the Fraser Coast, about 250 kilometres north of Brisbane, were routinely abused by the man while in his care, Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

The nine-year-old girl recalled the abuse to police, telling them her step-grandfather had been 'putting his rude part into my rude part.'

The young girls were first abused by the man in July 2018 when they stayed with him for a week.

The man began to touch his young victims inappropriately before increasing the offending to get them to perform sexual acts and reciprocate them.

The sisters stayed at the predators place a number of times each week, for a number of weeks, after the first instance of abuse.

The girls were even abused when the man's wife was asleep in the house.

He used lollies to keep them quiet about the abuse, claiming they would not be given the treats if they told anyone about what was happening.

The abuse became known after the older girl confided in her mother. The predator then told police of his offending.

After the allegations first came to light, the man's wife ended their relationship.

The abuse is the first time the man has been convicted of such an offence and he will be eligible for parole in August 2020.
