Three arrested for hammering man to death in Nippani

Belagavi: Three persons have been arrested in connection to the murder of a person on outskirts of Nippani town on Sunday. Police have also seized a car, a hammer, a bike and a scooter used in the crime along with 50 grams of gold from the accused.
The arrested are - Satish Shahaji Ksheersagar, 19, Sourab Ajit Athani, 19 and Ravi Iranna Shiragavi, 21, all from Nippani. They have been accused of killing Arvind Gourishankar Pole, 39, of Nippani. Police produced the arrested before a court on Tuesday.

The victim’s brother Ajit Pole had registered a missing complaint in Basaveshwar Circle police station in Nippani on Monday. Based on the complaint police had initiated investigation. Based on a tip-off, police had taken five persons in to their custody for interrogation on Monday evening.

Based on the information obtained from the accused, police started a search for Arvind’s body at stone quarry at Pangire village, 7km from Nippani. Personnel from the fire brigade and trained local swimmers were involved in the search and they fished out the body on Tuesday evening.

According to police sources, the trio invited Arvind Pole to a party at a deserted place on Sunday afternoon. After consuming alcohol, they hit him with a hammer and killed him. The trio took the gold ornaments Arvind was wearing and also pocketed his money. They later took his body to a stone quarry and threw it in a deep pit filled with water.

During the initial interrogation, the accused tried to confuse the police and divert the investigation by speaking about a false love story and a contract killing.


SP Sudheerkumar Reddy said that the trio were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.


Robbers held


Railway police have arrested a due for robbing a railway employee at the Belagavi railway station in the early hours of Tuesday. Utkarsh Sunil Varma, 20 of Konwal Galli and Girish Suresh Nayal, 23 of Camp had attacked railway employee Shiv Sangappa Nayak at 2.30am on Tuesday and made away with his wallet and cell phone. Police arrested the accused from Shastri Nagar and recovered the booty. The accused have been sent for judicial custody after producing before court.
