Leeds United news: January target could cost just £4m this summer - Whites had agreed £10m | Daily Star

Leeds could get January target for JUST £4M this summer - here's how

LEEDS UNITED could pick up the man they missed out on in January for just £4m this summer.

Leeds were close to completing the signing of Swansea winger Daniel James in January.

The winger completed a medical at Elland Road ahead of a deadline day move.

But Swansea pulled the plug on the deal when they discovered how the payments would be made.

James has just over a year remaining on his existing deal.

The Welsh club are desperate to keep him, but the player's representatives are keen to insert a buyout clause in his new contract of just £4m.

According to BBC Sport Swansea are adverse to agreeing to such terms given they were set to receive more than that from Leeds in January.

Although their want to keep him could still see the deal signed off.

James’s profile has continued to rise and his recent performance against Manchester City in the FA Cup saw manager Graham Potter claim he was now worth “three times” more than the £10m Leeds were willing to pay.

The 21-year-old scored on his first start for Wales earlier this month.

And he is believed to have his sights set on a move to the Premier League.

If so Leeds will have to ensure they gain promotion this term, which is now in their own hands following their win over Millwall on Saturday.

The Yorkshire club though face competition for his signature from Southampton, Bournemouth and Manchester City.

James has made 25 appearances this term scoring twice.

His length of the field goal against Brentford earlier this season had Leeds fans kicking themselves over their failure to secure his signature.

But the Welshman could yet grace the Elland Road turf sooner rather than later.
