Allahabad: The next time you hear a rap song with lyrics ‘vote kar tu vote kar, apni country ko support kar. Jaagne ka waqt hai, desh ka tu bhakt hai’, do look around to see where the voices are coming from.
In a unique initiative, this group of five youngsters from various cities of the country, including Allahabad, have come together to form a band called ‘Come on India’ to create awareness among voters in north India.
Travelling from district to district, the troupe members create rap songs to connect with young voters, urging them to come out of the comfort of their homes and vote. One song even praises the might of the river Ganga and associates it with nationalism to appeal for vote. The band comprises singers Prabhat Mishra (Jaunpur), Akom Singh (Delhi), Durgesh Singh (Jaunpur), Sonu Tiwari (Patna) and lone female singer Shadma Zaidi, who hails from Allahabad.
Putting up impromptu gigs, the band attracts attention at busy crossings, college campuses, street eateries, railway platforms, bus stands or a market place. By touching public issues with their music at such public places, the band makes a connect instantaneously. P 2
