Nagpur: Resident doctors at the Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) have not got their stipend since the past three months. Students claimed this is not the first time they have been facing problems, their stipend has been delayed several times in the past two years

The residents met with college dean Dr Sindhu Ganvir on Monday and raised the issue, who promised them the stipend for the month of January and February in the next two-three days but students will have to wait for the March stipend till April end when the state government will release funds for the next financial year.

Dr Ganvir told TOI that the stipend for the months of January and February will be released from the college PLA fund as has been the practice when the money doesn’t come from government. But the March stipend will be released in April end when the grant arrives.

There are 45 residents in GMCH and the annual money required for their stipend is about Rs4 crore but government only releases about Rs1.20 crore and rest of the amount is paid from PLA. The money is later compensated by the government.
