Nagpur: A hotel owner who started his business just three days ago was threatened and demanded Rs10,000 hafta by a murder accused who is currently on bail on Sunday at Gedam Layout, Hingna. The accused identified as Vicky Bhurle, 28, and his accomplice have been booked by Hingna police for extortion and causing damage to public property under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to police, Rakesh Tiwari had recently started a lodging hotel in Hingna area. On Sunday, Tiwari, a resident of Amar Nagar, was present at his hotel when Bhurle, along with his friend approached the former. The accused then demanded Rs10,000 per month to Tiwari as ‘hafta’ to let him run his business peacefully.

However, Tiwari denied the accused to pay the extortion money, following which Bhurle thrashed the hotel owner and also created a ruckus. The accused also damaged the board at the hotel worth Rs25,000. Soon Tiwari raised an alarm and called for help, following which the accused fled the spot.

Tiwari then approached Hingna police station and filed a complaint. Cops have launched a search for the accused but they are still absconding.
