NEW DELHI: A three-year-old boy died after coming under the wheels of a car being reversed by his neighbour in outer Delhi's Nihal Vihar on Sunday. Aahil was preparing to go with a family member to his father's shop around noon when he stopped to pick something from the road. The neighbour was reversing his Hyundai car but failed to see him and crushed him.
DCP (Outer) Seju Kuruvilla said that a case has been registered against the driver for dangerous driving and causing death due to negligence. According to those who were on the spot, the driver only got to know about the accident when they shouted out to him to stop. Aahil was pulled out bleeding from his head. The residents of Laxmi Park Colony hurried the child to hospital, but he was dead by the time they reached there.
Though the cops were informed about the accident, the accused had abandoned his vehicle and fled from the spot. A case was registered at Nihal Vihar police station and the car seized as case property. Relatives of the kid protested outside the police station demanding the urgent arrest of the accused.
After the family of the absconding driver was given notice instructing the accused to join the investigation, police were able to apprehend the man and haul him in for questioning. The cops are probing whether the Hyundai owner was under the influence and his blood samples have been taken for tests.
CCTV footage from the neighbourhood and forensic samples collected from the accident site will form part of the police investigation.
