Criminal intimidation charges slapped on man

Varanasi: Ballia police on Tuesday slapped charges of criminal intimidation and assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty against a man for allegedly misbehaving with Ballia DM and manhandling tehsildar Sadar on Monday.

The accused, Vinod Kumar Tiwari, who claimed to be a BJP leader, was booked under Section 151 of IPC and sent to jail on Monday.


According to the joint report of DM Bhawani Singh Khangarot and SP Devendra Nath, on the basis of the complaint by tehsildar Ballia Sadar Gulab Chandra, an FIR was lodged at Ballia Kotwali police station against Tiwari, a resident of Ekail village in Pakadi area, under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and Section 7 of CLA Act.


The DM said that Tiwari is an accused in many cases, including UP Control of Goondas Act.
