Poor turnout a dampener, brave the sun to vote: Akbaruddin Owaisi

HYDERABAD: Expressing disappointment over the dropping voting percentage in his constituency, over the last few elections, Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, appealed to the people to “wake up” and cast their vote on April 11.
In the 2018 Telangana Assembly polls, the constituency registered a mere 46.1% voter turnout – about 5% lower than its 2014 figure of 51.5%.
“We have been working so hard for you over the last many years. Right from providing quality education and healthcare to raising our voice each time injustice is meted out to you, we have been giving our blood and sweat for you. Yet, with a heavy heart, I have to say that the polling percentage is dipping significantly. Are we not doing enough?” the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator said while addressing a public meeting in Edi Bazar late on Monday night.
Urging the electorate to “wake up” before it’s too late, Owaisi said that it was important that they participated in the election in large numbers to ensure that MIM’s Hyderabad candidate, Asaduddin Owaisi, makes a comeback. “It is not an easy task to stand in Parliament and represent the issues of people. But he does it only for you. So, no matter how hot it is on April 11, each of you must promise to step out and vote for him. Put shoulders together to defeat the forces that have repeatedly attacked us, tortured us. Else, our future generations will not forgive us,” Akbar Owaisi said.
In response to Modi’s recent attack on the MIM, he said: “Before claiming that there has been no development on the other side of River Musi, yesterday’s chaiwala and today’s chowkidar should remember that this Hyderabad constituency area houses the biggest defence and research institutes.”
