Audi AI:me Concept Teased Prior To Shanghai Show Debut

The 2019 Shanghai Motor Show will open its gates on April 16, and several automakers have already announced their presence. One of them is Audi, who will be pulling the cover off the AI:me Concept at the Brand Night on April 15, that is the eve before the event.

Teased for the first time in a few official sketches, the study is described as the brand’s vision for future urban mobility, with an emphasis on autonomous driving.

While the exterior of the concept may look like a pod, the cabin has a very minimalistic styling. There’s an unusually shaped steering wheel, a large widescreen display that runs across the width of the dashboard, wooden trim and a few touch buttons on the door.

According to a previous report, the AI:me Concept has Level 4 autonomous capability. This means that it can drive itself without any human intervention whatsoever. As a result, drivers can eat, sleep, read and occupy their time with pretty much everything else but driving – even leave the driver’s seat.

“Today, we are talking about Level 3 autonomy, but in this car, there will be Level 4, and this will change the interior a lot”, said the company’s design chief, Marc Lichte, in regards to the show car that will be presented at Shanghai. “The car will give you an idea of what an interior, with or without a steering wheel, can look like.”

We’re looking forward to finding out more about the AI:me and other premieres set to take place at the event and, as usual, we’ll be covering all the debuts. Meanwhile, you can check out our dedicated “hub” and learn what else we know so far about the 2019 Shanghai show.
