Met predicts thunderstorm in Kolkata today

KOLKATA: The city remained dry and humid on Monday even as clouds grazed past its northern fringes, triggering a light drizzle in some parts. The Met office had predicted a thunderstorm but it bypassed Kolkata on a day when the maximum temperature touched 33.9°C. A thunderstorm, however, has not been ruled out on Tuesday.
Parts of Hooghly, Nadia and West Midnapore were lashed by a hailstorm on Monday afternoon.
"A cyclonic circulation that has formed over central Bengal was expected to move south. It did trigger storms in some of the districts and had generated cloud cells that travelled towards Kolkata. But the clouds did not precipitate a storm in the city. There is a chance of another thunderstorm on Tuesday, but if it doesn't happen, Kolkata will remain dry and humid till Thursday," said Regional Meteorological Centre director G K Das.
