Vadodara: After a fish, shrimps were found in the sump of the Manjalpur water supply tank. Local leaders of the area have also been complaining of unhealthy conditions in the sump of the water tank.
The shrimp were found floating in the sump where the water is stored before it is pumped to the overhead water tank for supply in Manjalpur. On Saturday, a large dead fish was found in the tank and it was removed by the workers there.
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) councillor from Manjalpur, Chirag Zaveri, said that fishes and shrimps were being found in the water since about a week now. He said that about a week back, some fish were found in the sump, followed by the recent two incidents.
Zaveri said that the sump was cleaned recently and a large amount of sludge was removed from it. He added that both the quality and quantity of water being supplied in the city had gone down significantly. “People in different areas are complaining of supply of dirty water,” he added. Zaveri said that he had raised the issue with the civic body, but it was yet to be resolved.
A VMC official said that it was unlikely that fishes and shrimp came in water supply. The officials were trying to identify the reason for these aquatic animals being found in the tank. They were also trying to ascertain if similar incidents were reported elsewhere in the city too. The fact that the incidents were repeatedly taking place at Manjalpur is also being looked into.
