PATIALA: Fatehgarh Sahib police have seized 25 kg of gold and cash from a vehicle that looked like cash vans used load cash into the ATMs. The gold is said to be worth Rs 8.5 crore approximately in the open market.
The vehicle stopped for checking at a barrier on Sunday in Sirhind following which police detained three persons from the vehicle for further questioning. Police said that the vehicle was carrying the cash and the accused claimed that they were transporting the money to a private bank. However, when questioned at the spot, the driver and the security guard in the van gave different statements. This aroused suspicion and police checked the vehicle closely and found gold biscuits kept under cabin seats.
“The driver and two other persons were stopped at the police barrier and asked to show the related documents regarding the transportation of the cash. They could not produce any documents related to the gold and cash. The private security agencies that transport cash are supposed to inform the police about their route. As per the documents they were supposed to reach Amritsar but they claimed they were going to Ludhiana. The further probe into the matter is underway,” Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Amneet Kondal said.
The accused claimed they had brought the gold from Haridwar in Uttrakhand and were supposed to deliver it in Ludhiana but the documents showed it was supposed to be delivered at Amritsar.
