Surat: Bhavesh Rabari, a senator of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), has written to university in-charge registrar alleging that vice-chancellor (VC) Shivendra Gupta has hired a bouncer for his round-the-clock protection at university’s expense. Rabari claimed that expenditure for security has increased after Gupta took over as VC in 2016.

Rabari has attached with the letter photographs of Gupta with his bodyguard clicked on different days and locations. Rabari alleged that the bouncer has been provided by a security agency which has been given contract without issuing any tender.

In 2015-16, the annual expenditure for security was Rs29 lakh which increased to Rs51 lakh in 2016-17. The expenditure on security increased to Rs55 lakh in 2017-18. “There has been consistent increase in expenditure on security, the contract for which was given without tendering. VNSGU needs to take action to reduce this expenditure,” said Rabari, who is also municipal councillor of Congress in Surat Municipal Corporation.

“No VC in any state university keeps a bouncer for personal security. This is waste of university’s money,” said Rabari.
