BHOPAL: Wheat crops worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a fierce fire that broke out in fields near Gondarmau area in Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal on Sunday afternoon. This was the second incident of fire in a farmland within twenty four hours. Earlier, fire had broken out in fields at Khajuri on Saturday afternoon. The reason of fire is now yet known. The standing crops which were scheduled for harvesting were gutted as the fire spread rapidly.
After the fire broke out a fire brigade was informed and it took some time to commence the rescue operation. This delay proved costly as crop in over more than 25 acres turned to ashes. More than two dozen fire tender vehicles took around two hours to douse the fire. Fireman from Gandhi Nagar Rajesh Meena said that the information of fire was received and a team visited the spot. The victims have not provided any details, he said. Police has provided the estimated loss to the administration to fix compensation.
Timely action averts crop loss
Similarly, another fire was reported in Badwai village in Bairasia on Saturday evening. However, use of monitor machine by fire brigade averted the loss of crops in the area. Fire fighter Pankaj Yadav said that the fire was in the left over “narwai” and that was only three or four meters away from the standing crops. However, we used the machine to douse the flames otherwise there would have been a huge crop loss to the crops, he said. Over eight teams of fire brigade from Gandhi Nagar, Chola and Bairagarh fire stations were pressed into action and it took them an hour to douse the flames.
