AHMEDABAD: Two days ahead of the end of the financial year, the civic body's hectic tax collection drive has led it to recover a record Rs 900 crore in property tax this year. "This is a record collection, because we had aimed for far less," a senior AMC tax official said. Over the last three months, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) intensified its property tax collection activities. The AMC on Friday sealed 989 properties.
According to AMC officials, they have so far collected Rs 897 crore in property tax. The property tax collection of AMC was Rs 805 crore in 2017-18.
AMC officials said that to increase collection, the civic body earlier directed officials to go all out to recover pending dues. He said that even small taxpayers, who have not paid one year's dues were targeted.
The AMC also recovered property tax of Rs 90 lakh from Sola Civil Hospital and Rs 34 lakh from Global International School.
