Five children drown in two different accidents

Rajkot: Five children drowned in two different accidents reported from Pal village of Lodhika taluka in Rajkot district and Bhaguda village of Mahuva taluka in Bhavnagar district on Monday morning.

In the first incident, Pravin Nayak (10), Govind Nayak (9) and Rana Nayak (11) drowned in a crater filled with water near Nyari river. “The children had jumped into the 10-feet deep crater for bathing. As none of them knew how to swim, they drowned. The victims hailed from Marwar region of Rajasthan and had come with their parents who were engaged in labour work for sinking wells,” said G C Jadeja, assistant sub-inspector with Lodhika police station.


The second accident was reported from Bhaguda village, where Kavita Komadia (13) and her cousin Asha Komadia (12) drowned in the village pond. “The girls had gone to the pond to fetch water. While filling water, one of the girls slipped into the pond and started drowning. On seeing the accident, the other girl jumped after to the rescue but she too got drowned,” said an official from Bagdana police station.
