Three arrested after car theft spree in Melbourne's south-east
Three people, including a teenage girl, have been arrested after a dramatic two-hour crime spree in Melbourne's south-east.
The series of thefts and carjackings began just after 12.30pm on Monday across the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, with police hunting for the suspects for the next two hours.
CCTV footage shows a blue ute speeding the wrong way down the South Gippsland Highway in Cranbourne about 2.30pm with police giving chase.
Seconds later the ute crashed into a passing car and the three occupants attempted to escape on foot. Police quickly caught the alleged car thieves.
Two men and a 17-year-old girl were arrested. No charges have yet been laid.
Footage from the scene shows a large gun being taken into evidence by police.
Nine News reported that four cars were stolen, including the blue ute that was carjacked.
"I saw the cop cars and that, the three people, two guys and a girl being arrested, handcuffed, sitting down on the ground," one witness told Nine News.
The police investigation is still under way.
