Security forces in Pulwama district dealt a major blow to the Lashkar-e-Toiba on Monday when they killed four of its top cadres in a fierce gun fight. Three Army jawans and a policeman sustained injuries in the encounter.
The police said that based on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by the police and security forces at the Lassipora area. "During searches, terrorists fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, four terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter," said a police spokesman.
Police said that in the initial exchange of fire, three jawans and one policeman sustained injuries. "They have been hospitalised and are stated to be stable. With the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and there was no collateral damage," he added.
