British 'jet ski escapee' briefly entered PNG waters, WA court told

A British man who allegedly tried to flee Australia on a jet ski armed with a crossbow has appeared briefly in a Perth court on outstanding charges and officially had his bail revoked.

David James Jackson, 57, took off from Cape York in Queensland and travelled across the Torres Strait packed with supplies for the 140-kilometre journey to Papua New Guinea.

But he was nabbed on the eastern side of Saibai Island, just short of his destination, and faced Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday where he unsuccessfully fought his extradition to Western Australia.

Jackson faced Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday and appeared in the WA District Court on Monday.

The court heard Jackson briefly made it into Papua New Guinean waters but was arrested on the Australian island.

Jackson was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing on June 21 for possessing methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply and possessing stolen property.

He will also appear back in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with possessing stolen property and a prohibited weapon, and two counts of breaching bail.
