Jenna Medeiros went 4-for-5 with a grand slam home run and triple as Diman Regional opened its softball season by outslugging Old Rochester Regional 23-13 in Mattapoisett.

Among Diman's many other offensive standouts were: Emma Medeiros (3-for-6, double, 5 RBIs), Courtney Hasey (4-for-6, double, 4 RBIs), Madison Teixeira (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Abbey Macedo (2-for-4), Alexis St. Pierre (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Kaylee Kochanek (2-for-5, double, RBI) and winning pitcher Sarah Alston (2-for-6, 2 RBIs).

 

VOLLEYBALL

Durfee 3, O'Bryant 0: At Durfee's Skip Karam Court, Danny Keyes smacked down 14 kills as the Hilltoppers (2-0) swept 25-15, 25-22, 25-13.

Andrew Saunders finished with 24 assists and added two service aces.

Marcelo Cardoza (5 blocks, 2 kills), Thomas Michael (12 digs), John Karam (8 digs), and Nicky Cardoza (all-around excellence) were among Durfee's other standouts.

 

GIRLS' TENNIS

Westport 3, Durfee 2: At Westport, Westport's Annie MacMaster defeated Adrianna Fernandes 6-2, 6-0 at first singles in the season opener for both teams.

Westport's Amber Valcourt downed Kali Lima 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, while Emily McMahon and Kaelyn Jones downed Allison Holding and Catarina Pereira 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 for the Wildcats' third point.

For Durfee, Amaya Travassos defeated Gabby Machairas 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Kyndra Carneiro and Jessy Haneip defeated Brianna Quinlan and Sam McCarthy 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

 

BOYS' TENNIS

Westport 4, Durfee 1: At Bicentennial Park in Fall River, eighth grader and returning Herald News all scholastic Evan Kidd defeated Javier Beltran 6-1, 7-5 at first single to help the Wildcats to this win in the season opener for both teams.

Also for the Wildcats, Alex Rapoza defeated Baron Snizek 1-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2 at third singles, Smit Patel/Roberto Ferreira defeated Ben Menezes/Cameron Jacob 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at first doubles, and Mikyle Couto/Tyler Holden defeated Chris Panchley/Jack Mattos 7-6 (5), 6-2 at second doubles.

Tom Panchley gave Durfee its point by defeating Brendan Martin 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3 at second singles.

 

BASEBALL

Bishop Stang 10, Fairhaven 7: At Fairhaven, Frankie Manon went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and the Spartans (2-0) led 10-0 in the third inning of this non-league game.

Other contributors to Stang's 10-hit attack were Ben Saunders (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), Jack Sefrino (2-for-3, RBI), Max Brulport (2-for-4), and Luke Bala (1-for-3). Dalton Pinto, Carlo Acosta and Saunders each collected their first varsity hit.

Winning pitcher Hayden Duke, a sophomore, allowed one hit and two runs in four innings. He struck out four.
