Tension at the Line of Control (LoC) have sparked off again after Pakistan Army pounded the Indian forward positions and civilian areas, leaving a BSF officer and a five-year-old girl dead, while 11 others (four security officers) were injured in the Poonch sector of Jammu division. More than five houses were damaged in the cross border shelling.

"One BSF inspector was martyred in the Pakistan shelling on the Forward Defence Location (FDL) on Monday along the LoC in Poonch area. All the injured are out of danger," said a BSF spokesman at Jammu Frontier.

A five-year-old girl was also killed while seven others were injured due to Pakistan Army's shelling of the villages in the Shahpur area.

"So far, five houses have been partially damaged in the shelling. We will be able to assess the actual damage to the property later as the shelling is still underway," said Rahul Yadav, district development commissioner, Poonch.

The fresh ceasefire violation began at 7.45 am when Pakistan Army resorted to heavy and unprovoked firing and shelling,

"Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by mortar shelling and firing of small arms along LoC in Shahpur and Kerni. Indian Army is retaliating befittingly," said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu.

Later in the day, the Pakistan Army switched gears and extended shelling to Mankote and Krishna Ghati sectors. "Pakistan again initiated a third unprovoked violation," added Lieutenant Colonel Anand.
