Ahmedabad: Infant abandoned by parents at Civil hospital

An eight-day-old girl child was abandoned by her parents at the Asarwa civil hospital on Saturday. The parents of the baby had brought her to the hospital for treatment after she was had troubles in breathing. She was kept under observation by the doctors.

According to the FIR lodged with Shahibaug police station, on March 28, a couple belonging to Dungarpur area of Rajasthan had brought the baby to Civil hospital for treatment. The baby was underweight and was put under observation in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of newborn in Civil hospital.

M.M Prabhakar, medical superintendent of Civil hospital, said, "The baby was in critical condition when it was brought to us. It was only 810 gram and was having severe breathing issues and was put under observation by our team."

On Saturday, afternoon the doctors found out the girl's parents were missing from the hospital. They realised the parents had abandoned their child and left the place. Shahibaug police were informed about the matter and later a complaint was lodged against the parents. Nirajkumar Badgujar, DCP zone-4 said, "A team has been deployed at the hospital to take care of the baby. We have also started an investigation to nab the parents. Primary investigation revealed that the accused belonged to Rajasthan and were identified as Kantibhai Meena and Jivali Meena."

Unfortunately, on Sunday afternoon, the doctors informed us that the baby died during the treatment and further investigation is on.
