CBI director rewards 14 officers on annual day

NEW DELHI: The central bureau of investigation achieved conviction in 544 cases in 2018. In total, 1468 people were convicted last year in graft cases investigated by the agency. The data released by the CBI on its 57 th annual day shows that the anti graft agency had filed 8999 cases and preliminary enquiries through 2018. 209 of these cases taken up on the directions of the court.


The agency’s report card claims that it had laid 156 trap operations for detection of bribery allegations and also registered 211 cases pertaining to bank frauds.

An agency spokesperson said that convictions were achieved in several sensitive cases as well. “The CBI successfully used the technology of Percentage Matching of DNA and Lineage Match for the first time in India while investigating the case of rape and murder of a minor girl in Shimla ( Himachal Pradesh),” he added.

CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla also awarded fourteen investigating officers, six law officers, forty six executive & ministerial staff and two technical officers with the Director CBI’s Commendation Certificate and cash rewards for their exemplary work.

“The CBI enjoys the trust of the people, Parliament, Judiciary and the Government. Whenever there is a major offence or a credible investigation is required, there is always a demand for a CBI investigation. Over the years the number of cases referred to by the Constitutional Courts to CBI have been increasing,” Shukla said while addressing the officers and officials on Monday,


Shukla said that the agency had been successful in realizing its mission of upholding the Constitution of India and the Law of the Land, through in-depth investigation and successful prosecution of offences. It has also provided leadership and direction to Police Forces and acted as the Nodal Agency for enhancing inter-state and international co-operation in law enforcement.


“The CBI has evolved from an anti-corruption agency into a multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary Central Police law enforcement agency with capability, credibility and legal mandate to investigate and prosecute offences throughout the country,” he added.


Emphasising on the importance of grievance redressal, the CBI director referred to the Open Door Policy for all officials of the organization in this regard
