No April Fools’ Joke: 2020 Acura TLX’s Only Updates Are Four Colors

The 2020 Acura TLX is arriving in dealerships across the United States on April 2 but don’t expect too many updates compared to the 2019 model.

As a matter of fact, the only changes are the four new body colors. The new premium paints are Performance Red Pearl, Majestic Black Pearl, Canyon Bronze Metallic, and Apex Blue Pearl — the latter exclusive to the sporty-flavored TLX A-Spec trim.

Acura says the advanced paints are engineered using cutting edge pigment technologies such as micas, metal flakes and nano pigments for super-high transparency. Each premium paint color receives additional coats to enhance the color intensity and depth as well as a special clear coat to improve luster.

Besides the new available colors, the 2020 Acura sedan remains unchanged. As before, it offers two powertrains: a 206hp 2.4-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 290hp 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 paired with a 9-speed automatic. Regardless of the engine chosen, all front-wheel-drive TLX models come with the Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) system as standard.

V6 models are also available with the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. SH-AWD directs up to 70 percent of torque to the rear wheels and up to 100 percent of that torque to either the right-rear or left-rear wheel for better control and agility in all weather conditions.

The 2020 Acura TLX comes equipped as standard with the AcuraWatch suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, Jewel Eye LED headlights, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, Smart Entry with push-button start, and a dual-screen user interface (ODMD 2.0), with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Prices remain the same and range from $33,000 (excluding $995 destination) for the base 2.4L FWD model and $45,950 for the V6 AWD with the Advance package. No word yet on the 2020 TLX Type S but there’s a chance we might see it at the New York Auto Show later this month.
