Congestion Pricing Coming to NYC

((VO-NY Traffic))??New York Lawmakers announced an agreement that will bring congestion pricing to New York City.????((VO-Drivers))??Business Insider notes that drivers heading into congested parts of the city would be charged a toll in an effort improve traffic and boost the use of mass transit.

The program is set to go into effect at the end on 2020, according to Bloomberg.????((VO-London))??The new policy is the first of its kind in the United States.

London has been using this method to raise funding for several years, according to the Financial Times.????((VO-Money))??The site also reports that the new measure could yield up to $15 billion dollars in funding for New York’s Public transportation trains - Metropolitan Transit Authority.????((VO-Homes/Bags))??The new toll charge is part of a larger 175.5 billion dollar state budget that will reportedly also increase sales taxes on multi million dollar homes and implement a state-wide ban on single use plastic bags.????((VO-Cuomo))??Bloomberg notes that after the deal was agreed upon Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters, “This is probably the broadest, most sweeping state plan that we have done.”????((VO-NY))??State leaders have not yet determined a toll amount, exemptions and credits for drivers but lawmakers said a review board plans to make these decisions in the coming months, according to Business Insider.??
