NASHIK: A man allegedly set ablaze his friend’s wife and later consumed poison in Panchavati area on Sunday.

The woman died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital, Panchavati police said.

The suspect Ravindar Nana Bhamre was staying with his friend Balu More for over a year. On Sunday, when More left for work, his wife had an argument with Bhamre. She was not happy with him for staying with them. The arguement took an ugly turn when Bhamre poured petrol over Rekha Balu More (32) and set her ablaze. In the incident she received 90 percent burn injuries.

Bhamre later consumed poison and has also received burn injuries and has been admitted in Nashik Civil Hospital.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the morning when Balu More had left the house. His wife and 12-year-old daughter were at home in Hari Siddhi Apartment Krishna Nagar when she picked up an arguement with Bhamre.


Bhamre, who runs a pav bhaji stall, again argued with Rekha after which he came home with a can of petrol and poured it over Rekha. Sayalee was inside bathroom at the time of incident.


Meanwhile, the neighbours called police and fire department when they notices smoke coming out of the house. Both Rekha and Bhamre were rescued from the house and rushed to the hospital.


Police had registered the case of attempt to murder against Bhamre, which will now be converted into murder, the officer added.
