Ludhiana: On the last day of property tax recovery on Sunday, MC generated Rs1.25 crore. MC offices were kept open on the weekend for the recovery. Officials claimed they had recovered around Rs76.5 crore so far during the financial year, but the final figure would be calculated in the next few days when online and manual recovery is checked.

There was rush in MC offices on Sunday, as 2,439 returns were filed, out of which 601 were filed online. MC superintendent Vivek Verma said they had become successful in recovering around Rs7-8 crore more than last year. He said the amounts of both online payment and manual recovery would be calculated in the next two days.

Notably, MC had a target of Rs90 crore from property tax for this financial year, but they could not achieve it. The officials blamed election duties and less manpower for the shortage in recovery.
