Coimbatore: The city police on Sunday arrested two motorcycles thieves and seized four two-wheelers from them.

Police identified them as Y Mehaboob Subahani and A Azharuddin of Vellalore. “The duo had stolen 20 motorcycles parked on the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) campus and some other places in the city. Subahani was working in plastic product manufacturing unit at Ukkadam and Azharuddin was an autorickshaw driver. They used fake keys to unlock motorcycles and sold them to Jaffar Sadiq and Basha,” a police officer said.

Preliminary inquiries revealed Azharuddin to be the mastermind. “CCTV cameras at CMCH had captured the duo stealing motorcycles. Race Course (crime) police had formed special teams to nab them. A police team conducting vehicle checks on Sunday had stopped Subahani and Azharuddin. As they gave contradictory statements, they were taken to the police station. During interrogation, they confessed to have stolen 20 motorcycles,” the officer said. tnn
