Exhaust emissions

more-in

While the writer (Open Page, “Battling the smoke”, March 31) has highlighted the ill-effects of vehicular pollution, the fact is that the rules exist only on paper. I recall my stint with an ISO-certified organisation, where every step had to meet with guidelines framed by the company. For example, whenever lorries arrived to pick up material bound for various destinations, they were let inside only after scrutinising the driver’s RC book, driving licence and, above all, the pollution-undercheck (PUC) certificate. If the driver did not have any one of these, entry to the vehicle was barred. Pollution control agencies should keep a close watch on automobile pollution.
