  • Bodum Bistro Toaster has voltage issues that could electrocute customers
  • It occurs if the user touches the heating element while the control lever is up
  • The toaster exclusively sold at Spotlight between August 2018 to February 2019

A popular toaster sold at Spotlight stores in Australia and New Zealand has been recalled over concerns it could electrocute customers.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission published a safety warning today stating the Bodum Bistro Stainless Steel 2 Slice Toaster has a fluctuating voltage issue that may cause electrical shock.

An electric shock can occur if the customer touches the inside heating element of the toaster when it is plugged into the power supply and the control lever is not triggered and remains in the upper position.

The toaster model is 10709-57AUS-4 and seems to be the only Bodum toaster that is affected, according to the ACCC.

The toaster was sold exclusively at Spotlight stores from approximately August 2018 until early February 2019.

The ACCC urges customers to 'immediately cease using the toaster and return it to any Spotlight store for a full refund.

This comes shortly after Big W urged customers to recall a brand of 'trikes' that were not secure for holding kids and can roll in an unrolled manner.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Spotlight Australia for comment.
