Two buried fridges discovered during search for missing Ipswich man
Detectives have pulled two buried fridges from the backyard of a missing Ipswich man.
David Thornton, 58, was last seen on February 22 at Colvin Street in North Ipswich.
He was reported missing by his family on March 12.
The search of the Goodna man turned sinister when a crime scene set up at his home and the homicide squad was called in on Friday.
Detective Inspector David Briese said the homicide investigation was launched after “further information was received” from Mr Thornton’s family and friends.
“[Police] to get to this point have conducted an intense investigation, particularly over the last 72 hours," Detective Inspector Briese said.
He hoped forensic examination over the next two days would lead to answers for his family.
“They are patient, they are assisting us, but obviously they are concerned as to what has become of him and where he may be," he said.
“We are concerned for his wellbeing and where he may be.”
Detectives began digging up a section of Mr Thornton’s backyard on Saturday evening.
A second dig began on Monday when the fridge was discovered after fresh tips came into police at the weekend.
Forensic scientists were also examining the inside of Mr Thornton’s home where he lived alone. Mr Thornton was described as Caucasian, about 180 centimetres tall with grey-white hair, blue eyes and a grey-white beard.
