Indore: A day after it came to the fore that the passing percentage in BEd second semester exams is 96, insiders in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) claimed that more than 88 per cent students secured first division. “Nearly 4000 out of 4500 students secured first division in BEd second semester exams,” said a DAVV official wishing anonymity stated. The official claimed that large scale irregularity took place in evaluation of answer books of BEd course.
“It is the biggest racket that has surfaced in the past many years,” he stated. The BEd course students, who had been complaining of under-marking for past several years, have shocked Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya with their performance in second semester examination. Their passing percentage stood at 96. As the results were unbelievable, deputy registrar (confidential) Rachna Thakur recommended review of results before announcement.
Her recommendation was accepted and the results were withheld. Vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad had said he was also shocked to see such an impressive result and announced that review answer books of one subject would be done to check malpractice, if any.
Totaling mistake in 50 copies
Examination committee, which is empowered to approve the results before announcement, found totaling mistake in as many as 50 answer books called for sample review. The committee had called some bundles of answer books for review after it learnt that the pass percentage in BEd second semester was 96.
On going through those bundles, the committee members found totaling mistake in more than 50 answer copies. The bundles were of Hindi subject. The committee recommended for correcting the totaling mistakes in answer copies before declaring results. It also recommended not allocating answer books in future to the examiners who made totaling mistakes.
Why all answer books not reviewed?
The committee members only went through answer books of Hindi subject. “We went through 1500 answer books of Hindi subject and found totaling mistake in 52 books,” vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad said. Asked why only Hindi subject answer books were reviewed and that too only 1500, he said that the examination committee recommended for only review of Hindi subject answer books. But now if there are doubts over the entire results, we will have a sample review of answer scripts of all subjects.
School of Edu teachers should review: Pandey
Youth Congress leader Abhijeet Pandey, a whistle blower in the alleged racket, claimed that staffers of the university and college directors are involved in the racket. “The university staffer send the answer scripts to teachers in Gwalior and Bhopal districts and leaked the names of examiners to college directors and students,” he claimed. He alleged that they approached the examiners and got marks as per their wish. Pandey demanded review of answer books from School of Education examiners
