‘Cong-NCP planning for BJP-SS win in Amt’
tnn | Apr 1, 2019, 04:58 ISTAmravati: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) candidate from Amravati, Gunwant Deopare, is a progressive farmer and builder. In 2014, he contested as a BSP candidate from Amravati and finished third with nearly one lakh votes. He is claiming that Congress and NCP are hand-in-glove with BJP in the district.
Excerpts from an interview ...
It is rumoured that VBA is in the fray to facilitate BJP-Sena victory.
This is a misleading propaganda by Congress and NCP. They want BJP-SS to win here. If that is not the case, how come Pravin Pote single-handedly swept his legislative council election from local self constituency? Why didn’t the Congress candidate get the votes it boasted about in that constituency?
In 2014, you were initially projected as NCP candidate but shifted to BSP at the eleventh hour.
In 2014, NCP offered me candidature but denied ticket at the last moment. With Prakash Ambedkar extending support to Gawai, I was left with no choice but to fight on BSP ticket.
Why did you quit BSP?
After 2014 elections, I found that BSP leader Mayawati has no serious interest in Maharashtra and I felt neglected.
How did you join VBA?
In 2014, I wanted to work for Prakash Ambedkar. This time he welcomed me in BRP-BMS and VBA fold and made me state general secretary. He also announced my candidature from Amravati.
Why were you chosen Amravati candidate?
I am a proper SC candidate unlike Adsul, who is an outsider, and Navneet Kaur Rana, whose caste validity is dubious. Adsul has done nothing in his last 10 years. I deserve one chance.
How is Ambedkar’s VBA different from other RPI factions?
All constituents in Ambedkar movement should come together under the leadership of Prakash Ambedkar as he has been running the movement as envisioned by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
How do you rate your prospects?
I am here to win. I will bag maximum chunk of Dalit-Muslim votes and a good number of Bahujan votes too.

Q. What are you promising the voters?
A. My emphasis will be on employment generation. I want to work for farmers, bring in agro-based industries, develop irrigation, airport etc. I also want tourism development in Chikhaldara, and good health and education facilities in the city.
